AVOCA, NY (WENY) - A Queens man is behind bars in Steuben County after he was allegedly found with stolen checks during a traffic stop.

28-year-old Darryl Carrington was pulled over on I-86 in Avoca for allegedly driving 80mph in a 65mph zone.

According to state police, additional investigation revealed he did not have a driver's license and had multiple suspensions. State Police say Carrington had several completed checks in various amounts, from multiple accounts in New York City, some of which had been altered.

Carrington is facing a slew of charges, including 2nd degree Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, four counts of 3rd degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 3 counts of 4th degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, and 14 counts of 5th degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. State Police say the multiple charges and various degrees are based on the value of the completed checks and the fact they were allegedly stolen from multiple people.

Carrington was sent to the Steuben County Jail on $50,000 bail.
