BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Elmira Corning Regional Airport announced this afternoon they'll be adding a new airline to the airport.
United Airlines will be coming in April and offer two jet flights a day to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.
"It just additional flights, you have more options," said Elmira Corning Regional Airport Director of Aviation, Bill Hopper. "Like I said before when I was talking, there's a woman that wanted to get Midland, Texas. She couldn't get there anymore and now with United, she can get there again. So it kind of fills the holes where people just weren't able to get there from this airport."
Flights from the airport to Newark will be last around an hour and twenty-five minutes.
With the airport undergoing a fourteen-million-dollar airfield upgrade and a fifty-eight million terminal construction project, airport officials believe the new flights has the potential to draw in new people to the region.
"It's going to open it up a bit," said Hopper. "It's going to give more options and, truly, especially with the new terminal building, this is going to be a great airport for people to fly in and out of and now there's more choices."
Flights will start leaving the airport on April 9, but you can now make reservations online.
