ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) - Ithaca Police are investigating a suspicious package report.
Officers responded to a home in the 400 block of West State Street around 4:30pm Wednesday. The caller told police he had found what appeared to be a pipe bomb when he moved into his apartment 6 weeks earlier. According to police, the caller said he recently talked to a friend about it and decided to call the police.
Officers arrived on scene and located the suspicious device. A Bomb Squad from the Endicott Police Department responded and removed the device. Ithaca Police say the device was a homemade pipe bomb that did not appear to have the necessary items to detonate. It was transported to a secure location and manually detonated.
No charges have been filed at this time.
