OWEGO, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Owego American Legion hosted an event granting where the wishes of two local soldiers were granted on Sunday.
George Whitfield and Mike Farnum had their wishes granted through the non-profit organization, "Soldier's Wish".
Soldiers Wish helps identify and provide for the needs of active duty service members, along with veterans and their families.
Whitfield, who is a retired Air Force Veteran, received money to replace the roof on this house.
While Farnum, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, had six months of his rent paid for and received a thousand dollar Wallmart gift card.
"It's an honor to be a vehicle for some good to come to them," said Tioga County Veterans Services Director, John Holton. "Today happened to be a day when there were two very significant wishes granted. Wishes that these families never even knew they needed. It's an honor to serve those who have served us."
