CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Two men are behind bars after one of them allegedly punched a police officer in the face.
43-year-old Luis Rivera of Bath, NY and 29-year-old Jeremy Thomas of Atlanta, NY were both arrested Friday on multiple charges.
According to the Corning Police Department, officers responded to a report of a disturbance on West Third Street in the city shortly after 2:00 Friday afternoon.
During an investigation, police determined both suspects were in violation of two separate orders of protection for the same victim. Police say the Court Order
prohibited them from being near the complainant or her residence.
Police say one of the suspects attempted to hide from police and then, after a struggle, punched one of the officers in the face and continued to resist arrest.
The second suspect was arrested a short time later without incident.
Both men were arraigned in City of Corning Court.
Thomas is facing multiple charges including attempted assault in the 2nd degree, criminal contempt, aggravated family offense, and resisting arrest.
He was sent to the Steuben County Jail on $5,000.00 cash bail.
Rivera was arrested for criminal contempt in the first degree and aggravated family offense. He was sent to the Steuben County Jail without bail.
Both men are set to reappear in court next week.
