HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- People from around New York, Pennsylvania and even Virginia came to the Southern Tier to show off their martial arts skills. The first annual Twin Tiers Martial Arts Championship was held at the Elmira College Murray Athletic Center on Saturday. Students of all ages could showcase their karate skills and put them to the test in competition. It included everything karate, from board breaking to sparring, to kodas and forms.
"The goal is for all the students to compete in a good atmosphere that's fair," said owner and instructor at American Family Karate, Shawnie Brown. "It builds their confidence and just really to have fun."
