MONTOUR FALLS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Montour Falls Fire Department his holding their the 62nd annual 'Fireman's Festival' this weekend. The three-day festival leads up to their big day on Saturday where there's no shortage of things to do. From corn-hole tournaments and amusement rides, to concerts and parades, there will be a little something for everyone to enjoy.
"The grounds open at noon tomorrow with our fabulous chicken barbecue," said Montour Fire Department member, Jim Howel. "We'll be selling chicken barbecue of course until gone. I think they might even begin selling around 11:30AM, but officially the grounds open at noon with the barbecue. The band tomorrow night is Devon Franks, an incredible country music band we've had here a handful of times over the years."
But organizers say the big event for Saturday is the parade in the evening.
"We'll have ten, count them, ten, high school marching bands along with many area fire departments, antique cars, horses and the usual," said Howel. "But really, what we like to be known for is the parade of bands."
Not only is the fireman's festival fun, but it's also for a good cause.
"The proceeds go to our equipment fund," said Howel. "Anyone that is involved in fire departments or emergency services, or just if you're involved in the activities in your community you know that the cost of maintaining equipment, the cost of fire apparatus, gear is normally picked up by the municipality. So the more that we can raise, the less that will have to be raised with tax dollars."
