ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - The 11th annual Elmira Street Painting Festival kicks off on Friday, July 6th with an Alive After 5 Concert at Brady's Pub.

Visitors will be able to stroll through the historic downtown area as local and regional artists decorate the streets with vibrant, colorful chalk, creating their own masterpiece like you've never seen before. There will also be 6 professional street artists from New York City, Pennsylvania, Atlanta and Florida.

"We have 112 registered artists and we have also about 60 young artists. So, we have almost 170 artists total," says Jennifer Herrick, the Executive Director of Elmira Downtown Development.

The art will be drawn on West Water Street from Clemens Center to Columbia Street and North Main from Ferris to Church Street.

The event will have live music, food, kids activities, and craft vendors. The festival is scheduled to wrap up after the closing ceremony at 3:45 in the afternoon on Sunday.

"We also have our partnership with Care First who is doing their Glow 5K run on Saturday night. So, its really just a weekend of activity happening in Downtown Elmira," Herrick says.

The Ready Set Glow 5K starts at 9:30 pm on Saturday. Pre-Race activities will begin at 7 pm.

Road closures will be in effect starting Friday afternoon until 6 pm on Sunday.
