Dig Safely New York Promotes 811 Day, Safety Awareness

Posted: Updated:

New York (WENY)-- Dig Safely New York is an organization raising awareness about the importance of checking underground before digging for a project. Dig Safely urges anyone to call 811 before they begin digging, so utility crews can check out the area to make sure it's safe to dig. The organization is using August 11th, or 8/11, as a day to promote awareness of calling 811.

Dig Safely New York will be represented at various events across the state to promote safe digging. While there, the organization will be doing several giveaways, hands on activities, and videos to give people information about why calling 811 is the safest way to start a digging project.

Dig Safely New York will be at the Watkins Glen Italian Festival in Clute Park this weekend, August 10th-12th giving away sunglasses. Saturday, August 11th, there will also be representatives from the organization at the Erie County Fair, Syracuse Chiefs Baseball game, City of Rochester Public Market, and the Rochester Red Wings Baseball game. In addition to those events, Dig Safely New York will also be on hand at the New York State Fair all week.
