ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – On Thursday, an officer from the Elmira Police Department hung up his uniform for the last time.
Officer Jeremy Oakes has officially retired from the force after 17 years of service.
Oakes said leaving the force is bittersweet.
“I've had a lot of great memories, a lot of stuff, you know, with these guys I've been with, stood with, cried with,” said Oakes. “Overall, it was a great experience.”
Later this month, Oakes will be starting a new job at AIM Independent Living as a veterans advocate.
