Catholic Charities to Host Several Domestic Violence Awareness Events

Chemung/Schuyler Counties, N.Y. (WENY)-- October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler Counties is holding several events to raise awareness for the issue.

     The first is happening Saturday, October 6th at Eldridge Park. It's the "Shine The Light on Domestic Violence" event. The goal is to remember those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, honor survivors, and educate everyone about the warning signs and effects of domestic violence. There will be vendor tables, face painting, food, educational programs, a candlelight ceremony, and live music. It's happening from 5:00pm-7:00pm.      The next event is the 5th Annual "Take A Hike, Domestic Violence" Awareness event. That's happening on Saturday, October 13th at 9:30am. It starts at the Schuyler Outreach Food Pantry, located at St. Mary's Center on 10th Street in Watkins Glen. It starts with a Domestic Violence Awareness Program at 10:00am. Then at 10:30, the group will hike the Watkins Glen gorge. An registration donation of a $5 gift card to a local gas station or grocery store is encouraged.      On October 18th, everyone is encouraged to wear purple to raise awareness of domestic violence. That night at 6:30., Man to Man, a local group, will be holding a forum at St. Peter and Paul's Church focusing on steps to end domestic violence in Elmira.
