ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The 62nd annual Elmira Holiday parade kicked off downtown this morning as people lined the streets to see their favorite floats. Even with the frigid temperatures, it didn't stop people from coming out early to grab a spot.
"I've been out here since probably about a little after 9 AM," said parade watcher, Robert Gildea. "I decided to come out and endure the cold so I can see the whole parade."
From Star Wars, to Beauty and the Beast, there were a wide variety of floats featuring popular movies. There were also numerous members of law enforcement, fire departments and local high school marching bands.
"I especially liked the Express marching band because that's my alma mater," said parade watcher, Mark Anderson. "They really did a really good job today."
With all the floats this year, there was still one everybody was excited to see as Santa Claus made his way down West Water Street. But despite hanging through the cold temperatures, people were still happy to keep their traditions alive and kick off the holiday season.
"I just like the parade," said Anderson. "It's an Elmira tradition and I've been here since I was a little boy. My dad brought me down here. Alas, he isn't with us anymore. But he used to do the same thing too."
