Corning, N.Y. (WENY)-- The Corning Museum of Glass is opening the doors this weekend for its annual Holiday Open House and Studio Glass Sale.
The Holiday Open house runs from 9:00 am-5:00pm Saturday and Sunday. It's free admission to the museum, and attendees can check out special glass-making experiences, live musical performances, craft activities, and even pictures with Santa. The 14-foot tall iconic glass holiday tree is on display as well. Organizers say it's a great way to check out the exhibits that will be ending soon.
"Because we have free admission this weekend, guests can explore every corner of the Museum. From our exhibitions, some of which will be ending in January, so it's a great chance to see some of those things that will be coming off display," says Ann Campbell, Marketing Communications Manager at the Corning Museum of Glass.
This weekend is also the Museum's Annual Studio Glass Sale. Hundreds of pieces of glass at all price points will be on sale. All the items are made and donated by local and international artists who created work at the studio throughout the year. Proceeds from the glass sale support scholarship funds and residency programs at the Museum, bringing the sale full circle.
"Our local community, our employees, our local glass artists are literally bringing in and helping international artists come. And it's reciprocal because as those international artists come here, our local community learns more, and grows in their awareness and understanding," explains Stephen Brucker, Special Projects Manager at the Corning Museum of Glass.
The Studio Sale will be open Saturday and Sunday 9:00am-5:00pm in the Museum's Studio building.
