Buffalo man arrested for allegedly stealing car in Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – A Buffalo man was arrested after police say he stole a car from a home in Elmira.

According to police, on January 6, a car and other property were reported stolen from the 400 block of Foster Avenue.

On January 8, police say the vehicle was located, parked and unoccupied in West Elmira. On the same day, a suspect was located and interviewed. Officers executed a search warrant at a home within Elmira and recovered several stolen items.

The man arrested was identified as 18-year-old Nathaniel Gilbert from Buffalo. He was charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree.

During the investigation, police say they learned that numerous vehicles on the west side of Elmira had been broken into. Some cars had items stolen from them, while the others were just broken into. Police say the incidents are still under investigation and further charges are forthcoming.

The Elmira police is urging people to report any car break-ins to the police. Additionally, they urge Elmira residents to be sure to lock their vehicles.
