WESTOVER (WBNG) -- The Broome County Sheriff's Office says an Endicott man is behind bars after driving into a gas station convenience store before committing a robbery.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to the Sunoco Express Mart, located at 719 Main Street in Westover, just after 11 p.m. Monday for a "hold up alarm."
Authorities say a man later identified as 44-year-old Vannareth Vongkhamchanh had intentionally driven his vehicle into the building, stole beer, and then stole the store clerk's vehicle.
Deputies spotted the vehicle leaving the parking lot and attempted to stop it. According to the sheriff's office, Vongkhamchanh was taken into custody after a short pursuit and charged with the following:
Robbery, second degree, class C felony
Criminal mischief, second degree, Class D felony
Reckless endangerment, class D felony
Petit larceny, misdemeanor
Deputies say he was also issued traffic tickets for no headlights, passing a steady red signal, failure to comply with a lawful order and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
He was arraigned on the charges and sent to the Broome County Jail without bail.
