ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – This week, attorney Diana Hughes officially launched her campaign for Town Elmira Justice.
Hughes, who is a partner with the firm of Learned, Reilly, Learned & Hughes, is seeking to succeed retiring Justice Richard Woodhouse. The general election will be held this year on Tuesday, November 5.
Hughes, who is running as a Republican, was born and raised in Elmira and has lived in the Town of Elmira for more than 20 years. She earned her law degree at Syracuse University College of Law and her undergraduate degree at State University of New York at Buffalo. She has been a private practicing attorney with Learned, Reilly, Learned & Hughes for the past 25 years and became a partner within the last several years.
Hughes is married to Richard Comstock, a recently retired Elmira Police officer.
“I am committed to serving the people of our community. I have extensive litigation experience having practiced in the courts of Chemung County including Elmira City Court, Chemung’s County, Family and Supreme Courts as well as many of the justice courts in our towns and villages. I am familiar with the day to day requirements and demands of being a litigation attorney and I believe this, together with my knowledge of the law, will serve me well as Justice for the Town of Elmira.”
Hughes also served on various boards and committees including the State of New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division Third Judicial Department Attorney Grievance Committee, New York State Bar Association, New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, Executive Committee of the Chemung County Bar Association, Susan G. Komen Upstate New York- Twin Tiers Region, Community Foundation Separate Scholarships Selection Committee and many other legal and volunteer organizations.
