CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) — Even though the weather is starting to turn cold, The Rockwell Museum was able to bring artists together for a socially distanced outdoor art exhibit.

Organizers of the event say artists from all over New York State drove to show off their artwork at the Artist Trunk Show.

"The weather worked out perfectly. We're really happy to be here and share in the love of art which is what we do here at the museum," said Willa Vogel, marketing manager at the Rockwell Museum.

Vogel says the event wasn't limited to one art medium, artists of all types displayed their work at the exhibit.

"There's a wide variety, there's glass art, ceramics and photography. Really, any kind of art that you're interested in is here. It's very affordable and we welcome everyone to come," Vogel said.

Some artists say they have been working on their pieces since the start of the pandemic and this is the first opportunity they've had to reveal and sell their work to the public. One artist says displaying her work and talking about the message of her art with others is liberating.

"When I started doing the snake series, there's the virus and the crisis and the sick and the first one I did is on a newspaper from January and it says something like chances of Coronavirus coming to the U.S. miniscule. By the end of the series it's like Prince Charles talking about talking about Coronavirus and all of these headlines that get really intense," said Nicole Costa, Artist at the Artist Trunk Show.

Costa says an event like the the Artist Trunk Show gives people the ability to express and talk about their experiences throughout the pandemic.

"It was really vulnerable, these have been very much like my own mental therapy throughout quarantine. It feels awesome to see them catching peoples eyes. I think the message is communicated. This is almost like a hidden language that we've all been speaking," Costa said.

The exhibit used exit and entrance points to keep traffic moving in one direction. The museum also required everyone to wear face masks and have their temperatures checked before they were allowed to enter the parking lot.
