ERIN, N.Y. (WENY) -- Multiple fire departments responded to a house fire Saturday afternoon in the town of Erin. Deputy Fire Coordinator for Chemung County Bud Baldwin said the fire happened sometime between noon and 12:30 p.m. at 984 Breesport Road.

Baldwin said only one person was home at the time, and no one was injured.

Baldwin said by the time firefighters arrived on scene, the fire was "well involved."

The Erin Volunteer Fire Department said the house was considered a total loss, and was torn down.

Multiple tanker trucks were used to try and extinguish the flames.

"The Fire Chief got a lot of water coming right off the bat, and there was no water issues at all. We had a fill site set up in Breesport, and that’s where they were shuttling the tankers to," said Baldwin.

The crews that responded were Erin Volunteer Fire Department, Comunity Fire Department, Breesport Fire Station, Horsehead's Fire Department, Town & Country Fire Department, East Hill Volunteer Fire Department, and Baldwin Volunteer Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. We will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
