ATHENS TOWNSHIP, PA. (WENY) -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) says they plan to patch the divot on Riverside Drive in Athens Township Saturday, weather permitting.

Fixes were planned for this roadway initially, before a fatal car crash killed 3 people on the road Tuesday, but PennDOT moved up the patchwork for Saturday after the crash.

PennDOT says gradual settlement created the dip in the road, after the embankment failed in 2013. Crews patched the road in 2015, but the department said the road settled more over the last winter.

According to officials, the patchwork will be a temporary fix. Bradford County PennDOT will pave a 150 feet section of the roadway where the divot is on Saturday, May 4. The paving project was initially planned for May.

PennDOT says crews will be monitoring the movement of the roadway on a weekly basis.
