ODESSA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is warning local consumers to not drink raw milk bought from Sunset View Creamery due to a possible contamination.

State officials say inspectors found Campylobacter jejuni in the milk, confirmed by laboratory testing Monday. Campylobacter jejuni can cause bloody diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting. Symptoms usually last about a week, according to the Department of Agriculture. In those with weakened immune systems, the infection could be life-threatening.

So far, one person has become sick after drinking the raw milk.

Sunset View Creamery has pulled their raw milk from shelves after the test result, according to a post on their Facebook page. They are asking customers to throw out any raw milk bought since Tuesday, April 23. The business said customers can contact them for a refund on any raw milk purchases, from April 22 to April 28, by calling 607-594-2095.

Other products sold at the creamery are still safe to consume, including pasteurized milk and various cheeses. Pasteurization is a process that heats milk, and is well known to kill the bacteria responsible for campylobacteriosis.

"Sunset View Creamery is taking steps to find out the source of the contamination and is diligently addressing any potentially affected areas... Our customers' health is our primary concern and we hope to have our raw milk back on the shelves soon," the business' Facebook post reads.

New York will continue to test the raw milk until it is determined safe to consume.
