UPDATE 12:30PM:

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office has identified the man involved in an early morning standoff. 29-year-old Timothy Morgan Jr. was arrested and taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Deputies responded to a home on Pennsylvania Avenue around 4:30am Wednesday. Once they arrived, deputies, officers from the Elmira Police Department and troopers with the New York State Police, set up a perimeter and made contact with the suspect.

Around 6:30am, Morgan left the home with a loaded firearm. He did fire one round during the standoff, according to the Sheriff's Office. Criminal charges are pending.

Elmira, N.Y. (WENY)-- An early morning armed standoff on Pennsylvania Avenue in Elmira ended with one man being taken away in handcuffs.

     WENY News arrived on scene just before 6:00am Wednesday morning. Police had their weapons drawn, and pointed at a house on Pennsylvania Avenue between Sheely Street and Hazel Street. At one point, a man came out of a house with a gun in his hand, and a cigarette in the other. Police yelled at the man to drop his weapon, but he refused, and went back inside the house.

     A short time later, police could be seen running toward the house with their weapons drawn, some of them in SWAT gear. Minutes later, police came back out of the house with the man in handcuffs. The Elmira Police Department, Chemung County Sheriff's Office, and NYSP were all on scene.
