ELMIRA, NY (WENY) - Another Elmira College Girls Basketball standout is headed to play at the next level. Express Senior, Zaria Demember Shazer signed her National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Marist College next year.

Avoca Girls Soccer State Runners-Up After Falling in Class D Title Game

The Avoca Girls Soccer team put together a stellar postseason run over the last couple weeks, winning the Section 5 Title, then rolling through the first 2 rounds of states to compete in the Class D State Title game. However, the Tigers fell just shy of that Title to Poland Sunday afternoon at SUNY Cortland, 6-1, to finish a terrific season.

Corning Football Rallies but Can't Hold On in Class AA Regionals

The Corning Hawks sparked for 14 unanswered points in the second half to take a 22-21 lead, but were unable to hold on as Cicero-North Syracuse kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired to move on to the NYS Class AA State Semi-Finals. Corning had one of the best bounce-back seasons in the area, going from 3-6 in 2018, to 9-2 in 2019. The Hawks also swept rival Elmira this season, where in the second game they claimed the Section IV Class AA Title.

North Penn-Liberty Volleyball Runners-Up in PIAA State Title

The North Penn-Liberty Mountaineers battled for a PIAA State Title in AA Saturday, but fell to North Catholic in 5 sets. The Mounties won the first two, but were unable to capture that third and final set for the title. NPL finishes arguably their best season in program history going undefeated in the regular season and only losing 1 set the entire year until the State Title game. The Mounties also captured the NTL and District IV AA Titles.

Horseheads Volleyball Falls to Ossining in 5-Set Thriller in Regional Final

The Horseheads Blue Raiders exciting season came to a close Saturday afternoon as they fell to Ossining in a 5-set thriller in the NYS Class AA Regional Final. Horseheads and Ossining traded blows each set to bring it to the 5th and final set, which went all the way to a 27-25 final score. The Blue Raiders finish the season 27-8-4 including tournaments and also own the Section IV Class B Title

The Owego Indians took a 2-0 set lead over Ardsley Saturday afternoon, but the Panthers clawed back and won the next 3 to stun the Indians in the NYS Class B Regional Final. Owego's terrific season comes to a close, finishing with a STAC Title, and a Section IV Class B Title.

#3 EC Women's Hockey Shuts Out King's to Start Season 2-0

The 3rd-ranked Elmira College Women's Hockey team is now 2-0 to begin their season as they shut out King's College, 6-0 Sunday afternoon. EC has scored 18 goals in their first 2 games after rolling Wilkes, 12-0 on Saturday. The Soaring Eagles will be back in action next Saturday, November 16th when they welcome William Smith to the Murray Athletic Center at 3 PM.
