ATHENS, P.A. (WENY) - Another Athens student-athlete is headed to the next level, this time in the swimming pool.

Grace Cobb signed on Thursday to compete for Wilkes University.

Grace played a major role on the Wildcats team. Last season, she was a two-time finalist in the PIAA District IV Championships where she finished in 8th place in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle.

Grace will join a Wilkes program that has shown a lot of improvement. The Colonels went 0-13 two years ago and finished 7-8 this season. Grace says she plans to go into the Pharmacy program at Wilkes, and she is excited for the jump from the high school to the collegiate level.

"I chose Wilkes for their Pharmacy program. I like their academic reputation of that, but after I met both of the coaches and I saw the family bond the team has it was just something I knew I wanted to be a part of," Cobb said. "I think it will be a big jump and I think I'm going to work on my weight training and increasing that in practices."

Grace says she will cherish all of the memories with her friends and how much of a family they were at Athens. She also took some time to thank those who helped her get to this point.

"My family and my parents definitely helped keep me at practice and driving me since fourth grade to some practices," Cobb said.
