ELMRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- "It's important that our citizens understand what it takes to grow things and where their food comes from," said Executive Director at Cornell Cooperative Extension, Andy Fagan.

Cornell Cooperative Extension hosted their 6th  annual Taste of Chemung event in Elmira at the Hilltop Inn.

Local restaurants collaborated with farms and businesses to create an array of farm fresh dishes.

"The apples are included in the apple crisp from Classic Café," said Fagan. "There is a 4H hog that we purchased and it was raised on a local farm and that pork from that animal is incorporated into a number of  dishes. Including bacon, I think, that's going on top of your choice, the mac and cheese from Turtle Leaf."

For thirty-five dollars, you could try meals from various local restaurants, enjoy some wine and brewery tastings and listen to live music.

All off the proceeds from ticket sales benefit educational programs through Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chemung County.

"If you look at what we have to offer, and the location, the music, the wine tasting, all the things that are involved, it's a steal at thirty-five dollars a person," said Fagan. "Knowing that you're also helping support the wonderful programs we have to improve the quality of life here in Chemung County."

All to raise money and awareness while having some fun.

"Our fundraising goal is to raise some money," said Fagan. "Our educational goal is to increase awareness about agriculture and we also just want to have some fun."
