UPDATE: 10:33 A.M: Elmira Police say the garbage truck was driving East on Washington Ave when the school bus driving on Oak Street failed to stop at a stop sign. The bus was struck by the garbage truck, spun around and hit a utility pole, then turned on it's side. The driver of the garbage truck is being treated for minor injuries. The driver of the school bus was ticketed for Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign.

Elmira, N.Y. (WENY)-- Elmira Police are investigating the cause of a rollover accident between an Elmira City School District school bus and a garbage truck.

     The accident happened just before 8:00am Monday morning at the intersection of Oak Street and Washington Avenue in Elmira. Police say there was one student on the bus at the time of the accident, but there were no injuries.

"We heard a loud crash and my wife says 'what is that?' I look outside, and there was a real large, I mean you hear the impact," says Elmira resident Brian Minnier. " I mean it was loud, I mean you could hear this boom. You could actually hear the brakes lock up on the garbage truck. It was very scary," Minnier says.

     We are still waiting information to be released from the Elmira Police Department. We will update the story as more information becomes available.
