Winter Storm Warning Broken Down for Wednesday
The Winter Storm Warning has been issued through Wednesday morning until Wednesday night around 10PM. Across the area, the First Warning Weather Team wanted to break down the Warning for each county, as conditions may vary across the Twin Tiers and Finger Lakes Region. Throughout the area expect an average of 6" worth of snowfall.
For Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tompkins and Yates counties, expect areas of heavy snow causing difficult travel conditions throughout the early morning commute and afternoon hours. Some showers may contain a mix of precipitation including rain and ice through the afternoon. Expect areas of reduced visibility as snow falls rapidly throughout the day. Also, winds may be breezy at times especially late day early evening, and they may blow or drift snow that has already fallen. Be prepared for accumulations of 5-8" of snow total for the area. Locally higher amounts may be expected in areas of high terrain.
For Tioga (NY) County, expect heavy mixed precipitation with including snow, rain and ice. Plan on difficult travel conditions and reduced visibility at times. Total snow accumulation may be anywhere from 5-8" with ice accumulation possible. Lower/higher amounts of each may be possible due to that potential for mixing as temperatures rise near freezing. Also, winds may be breezy at times especially late day early evening, and they may blow or drift snow that has already fallen.
For Potter and Tioga (PA) County, expect heavy snow a bit earlier than the Southern Tier with potential snowfall rates that may exceed 1-2" per hour. Snow may mix with sleet and freezing rain for a few hours through late afternoon. Plan on difficult travel conditions and reductions in visibility. Expect accumulation from 6-8" possible with locally higher amounts. Also, winds may be breezy at times especially late day early evening, and they may blow or drift snow that has already fallen.
For Bradford County, expect heavy mixed precipitation that will cause difficult travel conditions and reduced visibility. Expect snowfall totals between 4-8" possible with a light glaze of ice accumulation possible. The area may receive slightly lower amounts due to favorable mixing of precipitation of rain, snow, sleet and ice.
