The National Weather Service has upgraded Chemung, Steuben, Tioga (NY), Yates, Tompkins, and Schuyler counties from a Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning from 9PM tonight through Friday, expiring at 1AM Saturday morning. The upgrade was issued due to the likely-hood of heavy snow across the area with blustery wind conditions.

The National Weather Service is calling for 6-12" possible for the counties listed with locally higher amounts up to 15" possible in areas of highest terrain with snowfall rates potentially exceeding 1" per hour. Winds will also be howling, with gusts as high as/or in excess of 35-45 mph at times throughout the day, that may cause blowing or drifting snow, along with scattered power outages.

Travel may be difficult at times, especially early Friday morning, with lowered visibility possible throughout the day as well as slippery conditions on roads and walkways.

A Winter Storm Watch continues for Potter, Bradford and Tioga (PA) counties from 9PM this evening until 1AM Saturday with heavy snow expected as well, with accumulation ranging from 3-6" with locally higher amounts possible.
