Hanover Square gets ready for St. Patrick's parade

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Local residents turned out to Hanover Square for the annual painting of the shamrocks. The annual tradition is done about a week before the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The village of Horseheads Fire Department blocked off part of the street so they could paint the Celtic designs. But this year, Friends of the St. Patrick's Day Parade unveiled their own special float that will run in the parade.
"We anticipated, actually, to have the float in last year's parade, but did not realize the amount of blood, sweat and tears we needed to put into it," said Horseheads St. Patrick's parade committee member, Stacey White. "So it's been about fifteen months of work, worth of planning and now it's done."
The St. Patrick's Day Parade is scheduled for next Saturday on south main street in Horseheads. It'll start at Horseheads High School and end in Hanover Square.
