Travel Advisory And Tractor Trailer Ban Ahead Of Winter Blast
ALBANY, NY (WENY) -- Hazardous winter weather conditions being forecasted in many parts of the state have forced Governor Cuomo to issue a travel advisory and tractor trailer ban.
Tractor trailers will not be allowed on the New York State Thruway from exit 36 in Syracuse to the New York City line.
The ban also affects I-88 from Binghamton to Albany, I-81 from the Pennsylvania line to the New York State Thruway and Route 17 in Binghamton to I-84.
Motorists are urged to avoid any travel unless absolutely necessary and all tractor trailers, tandem trailers, buses, box trucks, and other high profile vehicles will be restricted.
"It is imperative that we keep roadways clear and people safe," Governor Cuomo said. State police will strictly enforce the ban, stopping and ticketing anyone who is in violation. Drivers are reminded to check 5-1-1-n-y by calling 5-1-1 or by going to 5-1-1-n-y dot org.
The ban takes effect at 8:00 a.m. on March 7.
