WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- With 10 million dollars up for grabs, tonight was the last chance for residents to have their say for the downtown revitalization initiative for Watkins Glen.

The final Downtown Revitalization Initiative workshop was held earlier this evening at the Watkins Glen Community Center. Leaders of the initiative spoke to the residents at the Watkins Glen Community Center about possible ideas on the table. Those at the workshop, including local business owners, were also able to voice their own opinions on how the ten million dollars should be spent to improve the community.

The Co-Chair of The D-R-I committee gave us her insight on current ideas they want to move forward with. She told us, "So, part of the process has been, that we want people after they graduate, for them to come back here. They've either grown up here or they come back here. So, some of the projects are more employment opportunities."

"Housing is also a big issue. So what we have identified through this process is that we don't have enough housing to do just that. To keep people here. They go to places like Elmira and Ithaca. So, part of this plan is to get more affordable housing into The Glen. To keep people here, which will benefit us all the way around."

Once The DRI plans are completely finalized, exciting changes will be on the way in Watkins Glen.
