Congressional Candidates Answer Questions At Non-Partisan Earth Day Forum
Elmira, N.Y. (WENY) - A variety of organizations held their first ever, "Non-Partisan Candidates Earth Day Forum" on Sunday at Park Church in Elmira.
The forum invited candidates that are currently running for Representative of the 23rd Congressional District, including incumbent Representative Tom Reed. During the forum, the congressional candidates shared their positions on energy policy and other environmental issues. Roughly 100 people attended the event and submitted questions beforehand, most of the questions focused on global warming and climate change. Congressional Candidates, Linda Andrei, Max Della Pia, Ian Golden, Tracy Mitrano and Eddie Sunquist attended the event.Representative Tom Reed did not attend the forum.
"This administration, the Republican administration is rolling back many of the environmental protections that we have had in place since the 1970's. The other important thing is that we have to move forward in making our plan so that we have a fossil fuel free economy," said Democratic Congressional Candidate Dr. Linda Andrei.
"Another one of the reasons that people for healthy environment wanted to hold this forum was because we feel that this is not really even a political issue. It is held during a political season but, this is not a Democratic issue or Republican issue it is a moral issue. We need to provide a sustainable, live-able world for our children and grandchildren," said Gary McCaslin, People for a Healthy Environment, Co-Chair.
