North Corning, N.Y. (WENY) - Fire Departments across New York State are wondering if there is a fire in you? If so, then you could potentially become a volunteer fire fighter.

This past weekend, Fire Departments statewide held a Recruit N.Y. Open House, inviting the public to learn more about becoming a volunteer. Yesterday, North Corning Fire Department held the event from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. During the event, the public had the opportunity to meet members, ask questions and check out the fire equipment. Applications were also handed out during the open house.

"There's a number of different jobs they can do, they can become a fire police, they can help direct traffic. They can also become an interior fireman where they are certified, there's also positions for EMS and EMTS. There's numerous things that can be done in the volunteer fire service," says Jesse Wilson, a First Assistant Fire Chief at North Corning Fire Department.

Over 20,000 volunteer firefighters have been added in New York State since "RecruitNY" began.

For people that are interested in becoming a volunteer fire fighter but, missed out on the event, the department encourages you to stop by on Monday night's at 7 p.m.
