(WENY) -- The Food Bank of the Southern Tier is once again teaming up with the National Association of Letter Carriers for 'The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.'

It's the country's largest single-day food drive providing residents with an easy way to donate food to neighbors in need.

All donations stay local, going to the Food Bank, community pantries and agencies, helping more than 72,500 people in the area who are food insecure.

Across the nation, residents are encouraged to leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods next to their mailbox before the regular mail delivery on Saturday, May 12.

Most needed items are:
- canned fruits and vegetables
- peanut butter
- canned tuna and chicken
- dry pastas
- boxed macaroni and cheese
- canned soups
