ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – On the afternoon of June 6, there was a heavy police presence on Maple Avenue in Elmira.

According to Elmira Police, they were responding to a reported burglary in progress.

They say a male was seen climbing through the window of a Maple Ave. home.

Police also said that there was no arrest, as the resident did not wish to pursue charges.

The scene has been cleared.

This comes just a day after a reported robbery that led to police surrounding a home in the area of Maple Ave. and Horner St.

That incident began with initial reports of a disturbance, which came in at approximately 3:15 p.m.

When officers got there, they were told that two males, one with a gun, another with a bat, were seen in the area.

Officers were also told that the suspect with the reported gun ran into a home. The home was searched, but no one was found inside.

After identifying the two suspects, police say they were later told that the same suspects robbed a woman. Those suspects reportedly were found with a pellet style gun on them.

Police say they detained the two males, but they were released and no charges have been filed because the alleged robbery victim would not cooperate with officers.

It is currently unknown if the home that was reportedly broken into on June 6 is the same home that was involved in the June 5 incident.

This is an ongoing story. We will provide updates as they are released.
