COOPERS PLAINS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Around 2PM Monday, Governor Andrew Cuomo, along with members of the New York State Police released the name of State Trooper, Nicholas Clark, 29, who was killed this morning while responding to a 911 call.

Officials say around 3AM, police responded the call of a suicidal person barricaded in a home in the town of Erwin. During the response, Trooper Clark was shot and killed by Steven Kiley, 43. Police gave an insight about Trooper Clark, and his life growing up in Steuben County.

Clark was a graduate from Canisteo-Greenwood High School and was a two-time state wrestling champion. Clark then received a wrestling scholarship to the University of North Carolina Greensboro where he attended one year before transferring to Alfred University. There he played football prior to tryout out for the Buffalo Bills. In 2015, he joined the New York State Police. His colleagues say Clark enjoyed serving the area where he grew up.

"He said he was a lifelong resident of Steuben County," said New York State Police Troop E Commander, Major Richard Allen. "He transferred back here to the bath barracks in August of 2017, where he was very proud to serve the citizens that he called friends and neighbors to try and give back to the community he grew up in."

Trooper Clark is survived by his mother, father and brother. State police say the incident is still under investigation and they'll release any new information as it become available. Stick with WENY News both on-air and online as we working to bring you continuing coverage of this incident.
