A heat advisory has been issued for Chemung, Steuben,Schuyler, Tioga, Tompkins and Yates Counties until 9:00 tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, temperatures will reach the lower 90s and heat index values could make them feel like they are in the upper 90s for much of the day. Additionally, high humidity is also expected.

In order to avoid heat exhaustion or a heat stroke, drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air-conditioned room.

Relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly and those with illnesses worsened by the heat, should also be checked up on regularly until the heat subsides.
