TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY (WENY) -- This month the Department of Transportation will start working on a $1.3 Million project, installing two new roundabouts.

The first will be at the intersection of Route 13 with Trumbulls Corners Road in Newfield.

The second is up north in Onondaga County.

Officials with the DOT say the roundabouts are safer, more sustainable and more efficient than traditional intersections.

Drivers can expect to encounter daily lane closures with a temporary traffic signal.

No official start date on the work has been stated, but the DOT says the work will begin in August and should be finished by Fall.
