ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY)-- It will soon cost students a little less to attend Elmira College.

Elmira College announced Monday it will reset tuition and fees to $35,400, a decrease of 15%. School officials say it's to narrow the gap between the published tuition rate, and the anticipated amount of families will pay.

"There is a national concern about the rising cost of a college education," said Chris Coons, Vice President of Enrollment Management at Elmira College. "By resetting the tuition rate at Elmira College, we are making an Elmira education a real possibility for more students."

"We are preparing to enter a new chapter at Elmira College with a new 2018-2023 strategic plan, scheduled to be released in late October. The tuition reset supports the plan's goal of increasing and diversifying enrollment over the next five years," said Dr. Charles Lindsay, President of Elmira College.

The tuition reset will go into effect in the 2019-2020 academic year. The move makes undergrad tuition at Elmira College one of the lowest of any four-year private colleges in the area. Elmira College will also offer nearly $14 million in scholarships and grants in the 2019-2020 school year.

Families will find additional information on the tuition reset online at www.elmira.edu/reset.
