FREMONT, N.Y. (WENY) – A man is behind bars following an altercation stemming from a domestic incident in the Town of Fremont.

According to police, 19-year-old Robert Fitzgerald allegedly shot a shotgun, striking two vehicles at two different locations. Additionally, he allegedly threaten to kill an individual with the same weapon.

Police say a neighbor approached Fitzgerald at the intersection of County Route 57 and State Route 21 and managed to de-escalate the situation and convinced Fitzgerald to put the weapon down.

Fitzgerald was then arrested by a Steuben County Sheriff's Deputy. He was charged with Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree and Menacing in the Second Degree.

He was sent to the Steuben County Jail on $50,000 bail.

The Steuben County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the New York State Police, the Steuben County 911 Center and the Town of Fremont Ambulance.
