CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) – Corning Police are investigating a suspected meth lab located at 315 Woodview Avenue in the city.

According to police, officers and firefighters responded to a call of an explosion at the home around 2:00 in the morning.

Upon arrival, officials made the residence safe and then conduction an investigation into the cause of the explosion.

The investigation revealed an upstairs resident was allegedly in the process of making meth and the explosion occurred, causing the upstairs window to blow out.

The suspect, who was the sole occupant in the room at the time, was air-flighted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester where he is being treated for serious injuries to his head, face and hands.

As part of the investigation, City Police, Steuben County Sheriff's deputies and members of the New York State Police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team (CCSERT) executed a search warrant at the residence and reportedly found meth making evidence and a quantity of suspected meth.

The investigation is ongoing.
