SOUTH CORNING, NY (WENY) -- Fire crews were called to action overnight in Steuben County.

Four fire departments responded to a call at a home on South Maple Street off Caton Road around 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

The fire forced emergency crews to block off a number of nearby streets. Our crew on the scene says when they arrived the entire neighborhood smelled of smoke.

Some of the windows on the front of the home appeared to have been blown or smashed out by first responders.

Luckily, the two people that live in the house were able to make it out safely with their three pets, and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Fire officials tell WENY News, after some heavy renovation the residents should be able to move back in.

Chief Adam Nehring with the South Corning Fire Department tells us the cause of the fire is under investigation.
