SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- A Northern Tier man is facing gun and drug charges after police say they pulled his car over for a traffic violation over the weekend in Southport.

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office says they pulled over 30-year-old Justin Smith of Mansfield on Saturday.  Afterwards, deputies allegedly discovered marijuana, a loaded handgun, and a loaded rifle. The Sheriff's Office says Smith does not have a pistol permit in New York State, nor Pennsylvania.

Smith was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, which is a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was arraigned in Elmira City Court, and sent to the Chemung County Jail on $15,000 bail.
