Food Bank of the Southern Tier Selfless Elf Race Had Record Number of Participants
Horseheads, NY (WENY) – Saturday local residents sported holiday apparel for the 5th annual selfless elf race, raising money to end hunger in the Southern Tier.
This year the Food Bank of the Southern Tier had a record number of selfless elves running in Saturday's 5k. The nearly 1,500 registered runners will allow the food bank to provide 225,000 meals to families in need across the Southern Tier. Friends, and families ran or walked at their own pace, knowing that their participation will help make someones holiday season a little brighter.
“Bringing the community together in a really fun holiday activity that really reminds people that they're people that are less fortunate really do need help throughout the holidays and throughout the year. To have so many of our selfless elf's running on our behalf and for holiday meals for their neighbors, it couldn't be more in the spirit of the holiday season,” said Maria Strinni, Communications Coordinator with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.
Each $35 dollar allows the food bank to provide 105 meals to someone in need.
