SIDNEY, NY (WENY) -- Police are of warning of old scam making a comeback just before the holiday season.

State Police say they've received several complaints of scammers pretending to be with New York State Electric and Gas calling businesses, threatening to cut service.

The scammers are demanding immediate payment with a prepaid debit card.

We're told the scammers also give a callback number that has recorded greeting similar to that of NYSEG.

State Police are warning never to trust anyone who calls asking for a payment with a prepaid debit or gift card.

They also say any customers you have questions about their bill should contact the company directly.
