Elmira, N.Y. (WENY)-- Elmira's Department of Public Works is continuing to work toward completing the leaf pick-up program started earlier this fall.

Due to the recent inclement weather, crews had to suspend leaf pick-up until the snow cleared. As long as the weather is decent, crews will be out clearing the remaining leaves. However, officials have reminders for city residents who rake their leaves to the street for pick-up. Residents are asked to rake the leaves to the area between the curb and sidewalk for pick-up. In the area without sidewalks, residents should rake the leaves as close to the curb or street as possible. In all cases, residents are asked to leave room for safe pedestrian travel. Leaves should not be raked into the street.

Additionally, bagged leaf pick-up has been discontinued. It's now a violation for most landfills to accept yard waste, including bagged leaves. Therefore, any bagged leaves sitting by the road will not be picked up.
