VAN ETTEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- After months of studying, planning, and debating, the Village of Van Etten has officially dissolved.

The now former Village Mayor, Jake Briggs, confirmed to WENY News that as of Monday - he handed over the village keys and accounts to the town clerk for the Town of Van Etten. The proposal for the dissolution came up back in October of last year.

An outside firm came in, and said if the Village dissolved into the town, taxpayers would see an 11% property tax drop.  The study also revealed that town residents would see a 4% drop. Voters made the decision last December.

WENY News asked former Village Mayor Briggs if he had anything to say after the Monday night development, he said, he wishes the best of luck to the town moving forward, and wanted to give a thank you to everyone involved in the process along the way.
