UPDATE (12:58 p.m. 1/8/19): 
The Tioga County Sheriff's Office has released more information about the crash.

The victim, who was also the driver, has been identified at 58-year-old Kevin Robinson of Candor.

Police say Robinson was driving north on State Route 96 when his car went off of the roadway and hit several objects, including a utility pole. Robinson was found dead at the scene. 

The investigation is currently ongoing. 

UPDATE: 7:15 P.M.

CATATONK (WBNG) -- One person died Monday night in a crash on State Route 96 in Tioga County.

The Tioga County Fire Coordinator said a car hit a tree and utility pole off the road. This was near Storm Lane.

A person involved died from injuries suffered in the crash.

Candor Fire and Emergency Services, Campville EMS, Owego Fire, and the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.

As of 7:15 p.m. NYSEG crews were on their way to the location of the crash to repair the utility pole that was damaged.


ORIGINAL STORY:

CATATONK (WBNG) -- A section of State Route 96 in Tioga County is closed to traffic while crews work at the scene of a crash.

Authorities say there were serious injuries in the crash.

According to the New York State Department of Transportation, all lanes are blocked between Anderson Hill Road and Dominic Road near Candor.

Authorities report traffic is being diverted to Anderson Hill Road, Tulls Corners Road, and Dominic Road.

Nearly 200 NYSEG customers in the Candor area were without power as of 4:40 p.m. Monday.

According to the utility company, the crash is to blame for the outage.

NYSEG officials told 12 News they expect it will be several hours before power is restored to all customers and the utility pole is fixed.
