ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Earlier tonight the Frederick Douglass Memorial Church hosted a human trafficking forum in Elmira. The forum, which was run by the Elmira Poor People's Campaign, focused on trafficking here in the Southern Tier.

Cities such as New York or Philadelphia are notorious for trafficking problems due to the population size, but one of the main points organizers hope was taken away, is how it can happen right in your own backyard.

During the forum, campaign coordinator Rebecca Forsyth said, "A lot of folks like to pretend it doesn't happen in my backyard, it doesn't happen here. So, we thought is was really important to have some local organizations come out to help us frame this in a local way, and to help show that this is happening everywhere including right here."

The next forum to be held at the church on January 22nd will be partnered with Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler Counties, and will focus on Homelessness in our area.
