BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- Local schools in Steuben County are looking for sneaker donations, and they reached out to the Arc of Steuben to help out kids in need. The Arc has set a goal of 200 pairs of sneakers, but the hope is to get as many gently used shoes as possible.

The non-profit recently had a successful coat drive, but now the problem has come up for children in need of shoes. The schools that have reached out claim that multiple children have shown up to school with tattered sneakers, or do not even own sneakers. To help out during these cold winter months, this box has to start filling up.

The Arc Representative behind the initiative, Lisa Rosenkrans, said today during an interview, "We've had a few schools reach out to us as we've had them report about kids that come into school with no sneakers, or sneakers in very bad shape. One of the schools that reached out was Hammondsport, along with a couple others here in our area. So, we decided to see what we could do to help these kids get some fresh shoes on their feet."

If you're able to donate a pair of shoes there are a few ways that you can get them to the right place by the end of the drive on January 25th. Rosekrans added, "You can call or email me if you need the shoes to be picked up. You can drop them off at our office here in Bath at 1 Arc Way, behind the Simmons Rockwell building. We have a field office in Hornell, and they can also be dropped off there."
