Ithaca, N.Y. (WENY)-- An Ithaca family is without a home today after a fire ripped through their home late Wednesday night.

The Ithaca Fire Department responded to the call on Linn Street just after 11:00pm. When crews arrived on scene, they say there was a heavy fire burning in the middle of the home and extending to an attached garage. Firefighters used multiple hose lines to not only control the fire, but also to keep it from spreading to neighboring houses. Ithaca Fire Chief Thomas Basher Jr. says the heavy winds and freezing temperatures made the battle more challenging.

The home and garage were heavily damaged by the fire. Luckily, the two occupants and their three dogs were able to escape unharmed. No other homes in the area was affected by the fire.

The Ithaca Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Newfield Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance.
